Six days of morning Ashtanga led and Mysore. Four afternoons of workshops, restorative yoga, relaxation and meditation.
Ashtanga yoga is a traditional form of yoga born in Mysore, India. It is a set sequence of postures that are broken down into different series. Starting with sun salutations and the standing sequence, students then move on to practice primary series. Traditionally students would practice in what is now referred to as ‘Mysore style’, where the class is not led but the teachers move from student to student, guiding and adjusting each person’s individual practice. Students work up to the posture that they need to develop and are moved on when the teacher decides it’s time for the next posture. Over time their practice becomes longer and deeper until they are moved on to second series and so on…
A led Ashtanga class is a counted practice where the whole class moves together with the teachers count. This is a challenging practice as the rhythm is maintained throughout the class. If students are unable to achieve certain postures at that time, they modify the poses as much as they need to.
The afternoons in Spain are going to be hot, which means this is a perfect time to allow the body to soften and relax. Restorative yoga is a form of relaxation where the body is completely supported, usually in supine postures, allowing healing to occur and the body to open in a gentle way. It is a great way to prepare the body for relaxation and meditation.
We will explore different practices of relaxation and meditation over the week and this will include yoga nidra. Yoga nidra is a guided form of meditation which is designed to take the body to the edge of sleep (without falling asleep), allowing healing to occur on a deep cellular level. Sleep often happens, and like all traditions, yoga nidra takes practice but over time, this can become a very powerful meditation.
Both weeks are open to all levels of practitioners.
There are lots of activities in the local area that you can enjoy in your free time, as well as treatments offered on site.
