I spent a week at a mosaic retreat at Tara Casa in December 2025. I travelled from Devon, UK. This was the first time I had booked this kind of holiday and I wasn’t sure what to expect – to be honest, I was very nervous. Happily this holiday exceeded all my expectations, and for the first time in years I came home feeling much less stressed. I’m so glad I did it. I can wholeheartedly recommend a Tara Casa mosaic holiday and will hopefully visit again!
Dan’s booking process was smooth and the holiday was great value for money. There were last minute cancellations for the course I was on and so it was only myself and one other person on the course. She was an absolute sweetheart, it was a pleasure to do the course with her and I am thrilled to have made a new friend.
The mosaicing was wonderful. Lots of inspiring works everywhere and a lovely spacious studio to work in. Dan’s advice and guidance was invaluable and the piece I made is the first one I’ve proudly sent pictures of to my friends and family! I think it was having the space to really put my heart and soul into it, which would not have been possible without the relaxed vibe of Tara Casa and the kindness and encouragement of Dan and Viv, they were a pleasure to spend time with. I feel like my creative block has shifted and I am starting to plan future projects.
I must give special mention to the food. Dan is a great chef! I am a very finicky eater and brought oat cakes to eat when I couldn’t eat a meal. They returned home unopened! All the meals were hearty and delicious, with lots of fresh food. I am really missing being fed so well!
The dogs. Ah, the dogs! I lost my heart to each one of them. I told Viv that I would review each dog individually but I couldn’t bear to place any of them less than 10/10! They were angels and a pleasure to hang out with. A++, would recommend.

My week at Tara Casa was a fabulous experience! Under Dan’s instruction and oversight, my mosaic technique was elevated to a new level. It was a wonderful week of mosaic immersion.
Beyond the valuable mosaic guidance, I gained a week of relaxation, content, and introspection. I could not have imagined how comfortable I would feel with Dan, Viv and the other mosaic student with whom I shared the week. Kind, open, and accommodating people, Dan and Viv were wonderful to be around. And the food! Dan is quite the chef! Three fabulous meals a day.
In addition to a feeling of new friendships, I also gained a sweet connection with the family dogs. Each with their own personality, they added a special dimension to my stay.
Getting to Tara Casa required a long flight from the USA but the trip was worth every minute in the air. I would love to visit again.

Your tutor Dan is a talented artist who has extensive mosaic making experience and has been teaching mosaic holidays for over 20 years. This fun course will provide the environment and guidance so that you can produce your own unique mosaic artwork.
During the mosaic art courses & holidays you will learn the basis of cutting and shaping glass and mosaic tiles. On the courses you will be able to complete a mosaic mounted on board for you to take back home to enjoy and impress your friends.
The beautiful and secluded retreat where your accommodation and the mosaic courses are set is surrounded by almond, lemon trees, jasmine and bougainvillea. The gardens are an ideal place to relax in the shade or to take a soothing swim in the private pool. If you like the feel of the sand between your toes you are also just 15 minutes from the fantastic coastal beaches.

Dan Rust has been a mosaic artist for over 20 years, working on commissions including sign writing for restaurants, swimming pools, wall and floor mosaics, portraits and corporate logos. Dan also loves teaching students and takes great satisfaction from knowing they will treasure their mosaic for years to come.

* Airport Transfers. The nearest airport is Murcia International airport, then Alicante airport for international flights. Or fly into Madrid or Barcelona, see the sights such as the Gaudi Mosaics in Barcelona then travel down to Cartagena, Murcia.
