Home / Photos / Jamu – An Anti-Inflammatory Tonic

Jamu Juice is an anti-inflammatory healing tonic sold in markets and street corners in Indonesia. It´s powerful effects will help to reduce the inflammation that becomes pervasive in our bodies when we are exposed to everyday stress and toxins. Chronic inflammation has become an epidemic and is the pre-cursor to disease, so this is a great little tonic to take daily, or when you are feeling run down, or in need of an injection of health.

Jamu Juice will…

  • Boost your immune system
  • Bring down inflammation
  • Aid digestion (good digestion is essential for vibrant health)
  • Help reduce hot flashes
  • Feel warming when you´re cold

  • Tamarind… This is optional and not in our recipe, but if you can get it, it’s benefits are anti-inflammatory and loaded with antioxidants

Recipe

½ cup of sliced turmeric
½ cup of sliced ginger
Grated peel of a lemon or lime
4 cups of filtered water
2 tablespoons of lime or lemon juice or a bloody good squeeze
1-3 teaspoons of local or raw medicinal honey

  • Use a blender to blend up the turmeric, ginger and lemon or lime peel with the water until smooth
  • Add the mixture to a pot and simmer for 25 minutes
  • Take the pot off the heat and let the mixture cool for 10 minutes, then strain it into a jug
  • Stir in the honey and the juice of your lemon or lime
  • Store in the refrigerator and drink as a shot before or between meals

Jamu is quite a potent blend so if you have a sensitive tummy, avoid drinking first thing in the morning on an empty tummy, and maybe sip it to begin with so not to shock your belly.

Enjoy
