Ingredients and benefits
- Fresh Turmeric root… Anti-inflammatory, anti-carcinogenic, relieves pain from arthritis, aids digestion, and problems associated with digestion such as IBS and stomach ulcers, detoxifying, great for bone and joints, and so much more
- Fresh Ginger root… Anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, stimulates digestion, relieves menstrual pain, and pain associated with endometriosis and uterine fibroids. Can help reduce hot flashes and night sweats
- Lemon or Lime juice and peel… Alkalizing, rejuvenating, uplifting, and toning. Detoxifies liver and is antimicrobial and antiviral
- Honey… Antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, boosts the immune system, high in digestive enzymes
- Tamarind… This is optional and not in our recipe, but if you can get it, it’s benefits are anti-inflammatory and loaded with antioxidants
Recipe
½ cup of sliced turmeric
½ cup of sliced ginger
Grated peel of a lemon or lime
4 cups of filtered water
2 tablespoons of lime or lemon juice or a bloody good squeeze
1-3 teaspoons of local or raw medicinal honey
- Use a blender to blend up the turmeric, ginger and lemon or lime peel with the water until smooth
- Add the mixture to a pot and simmer for 25 minutes
- Take the pot off the heat and let the mixture cool for 10 minutes, then strain it into a jug
- Stir in the honey and the juice of your lemon or lime
- Store in the refrigerator and drink as a shot before or between meals
Jamu is quite a potent blend so if you have a sensitive
tummy, avoid drinking first thing in the morning on an empty tummy, and maybe
sip it to begin with so not to shock your belly.
